How To Factory Reset Your Philips Hue Lighting System

By RADIAL STAFF

Here’s how to restore your Philips Hue Bridge, Hue Lights, and Philips Hue Accessories to factory default, in case you are selling or donating your system, or just want to start setting up your system from scratch for any reason.

There are a few different ways you can factory restore your Philips Hue system.  You can either do this through the app by deleting your accessories, lights and Hue Bridge, or if you have a dimmer then you can manually reset your Philips Hue Bulbs individually, and also reset your Hue Bridge device manually. This article will walk you through everything you need to know to factory restore your Hue Bridge. We’ll also link our video tutorial below if you prefer a visual walk through of the steps.

PART 1: DELETING ACCESSORIES

Firstly, you’ll need to delete any accessories. This includes tap switches, dimmers, etc. To do this, do the following:

  • First, launch the philips hue app
  • Now we’ll remove any accessories by tapping on settings, accessories
  • Tap on the accessory name and tap delete. Are you sure? Tap delete
  • Now the accessory has been removed

PART 2: DELETING LIGHTS

Next you’ll be deleting any lights on your system. This includes any Philips Hue bulbs, Hue light fixtures, Hue Light Strips, etc. To do this, here are the steps:

  • Go back to settings and tap on “Lights”
  • Tap on the light name, then tap delete. You’ll get the message: “By deleting this light it can no longer be controlled.” Tap “Delete Light”
  • Repeat this with any lights on your system
  • When you get the prompt to “Add Lights” in the Lights section, you know that all lights have been deleted

PART 3: REMOVE HUE BRIDGE

Next, you’ll need to remove your Hue Bridge from the Philips Hue App. These are the steps to do that:

  • Tap on “My Hue System”
  • Under Hue bridges, you should see the names of any Hue Bridges on your system – if you have more than one, tap on the name of the first one
  • Then tap on Remove. You’ll get the message “Do you want to remove this hue bridge”.  Tap remove.
  • Your system is now reset to factory default and can be set up from scratch

HOW TO MANUALLY RESET A PHILIPS HUE BULB OR LIGHT

If you have a dimmer, there is another way you can factory reset a single light or bulb. Here are the steps to do that:

  • Turn on the bulb or light
  • Bring the dimmer within 6″ (15cm) away from the light
  • Press and hold the “Power On” and “Power Off” buttons (or on the newer dimmer it’s the “Power On” and “Scene Selection” buttons)
  • Hold both buttons until the bulb flashes
  • The light or bulb has now been reset to its factory settings
HOW TO MANUALLY RESET PHILIPS HUE BRIDGE

You can manually reset your Hue Bridge by completing the following steps:

  • Flip over the Hue Bridge device
  • Insert a paper clip or sim tool into the small reset button on the back of the Hue Bridge
  • Press and hold the reset button for 5 seconds, then release
  • The light on the top of the device will turn on and off for several minutes
  • When the light stays solid, the Hue Bridge has been restored to factory default settings
