Harry Styles’ song “As It Was” from his 2022 album, Harry’s House, is a refreshing addition to his growing catalog of tracks. With his solo career, Styles has been curating a vintage aesthetic with nods to rock history, and “As It Was” is no different. The ultra-catchy instrumental motif and bedroom indie-pop aesthetic is both instantly palatable and yet a little out of place among top 40 radio hits, and the track has also spawned acclaim and covers by the likes of Arcade Fire. With a tempo in the vein of The Strokes’ “Hard to Explain,” it’s a perfectly catchy and lightweight earworm of a track.
