When Apple released the iPhone 6 instantly people started asking, “is this it for smaller iPhones?” Along the way, Apple released the iPhone SE which took on the shape of the smaller iPhone 5 but it was slower and not as fun to use as the newer larger iPhone 6.
Screen Real Estate at the expense of bigger phones
In moving to larger phones we lost the pocket-ability of the older smaller iPhones and we also, for most people, lost the ability to effectively use iPhone one-handed. There has always been a trade off to smaller phones though – screen size. We got used to these larger screens that allowed for way more engaging content, and the experience just wasn’t the same on a smaller phone even though the form factor, in our opinion was better. Because of this our phone screens have gotten larger, but at the expense of overall device size.
A Pocket-Sized Phone with No Compromises
Until now, we have all been patiently waiting for Apple to release a no compromise smaller more pocketable iPhone, and they finally did! The iPhone 12 mini has returned to the iPhone 5 form. This design is one of our favourites ever for an iPhone and Apple has also been able to squeeze in a 5.4” display, which is only .4” smaller then an iPhone 11 Pro but in a much smaller form factor. We are excited to get our hands on one to do a full in-depth review.
The Goods
The iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4” display, will have 5G cellular, an OLED display with ceramic shield technology, an upgraded camera system, and the same magsafe snap-on accessory system that is coming to the iPhone 12 Pro – this phone is going to be a small beast.
