A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE WYATTS
The Saint Laurent Wyatt boots are a true embodiment of the fashion house’s signature rockstar aesthetic. Hedi Slimane, the brand’s former Creative Director, first introduced the boots in his debut menswear collection for Saint Laurent in Fall/Winter 2013. Taking inspiration from a classic boot of the same name by a brand called Frye, Slimane elevated the design by shortening the shaft and exaggerating the point of the toe, creating a modern take on the traditional harness boot. The result is a sleek and edgy silhouette that has become a staple for the fashion-forward man.
PAIR 1: BEIGE SUEDE WYATT 40 HARNESS BOOTS
The first pair up is the Saint Laurent Beige Suede Wyatt 40 Harness Boots, and these boots are a true representation of the brand’s rockstar aesthetic. These boots are definitely the most distinctively Saint Laurent out of the three pairs we’re showcasing, and they are also the most bold and polarizing of the three. If you’re looking for a boot that will garner comments and compliments, and you have the appropriate rockstar attire to complete the look, then this is the pair to invest in. The craftsmanship and quality of these boots is undeniable – from the stunning feel and look of the suede to the perfectly crafted shape, these boots are like a piece of art in themselves. One aspect that we particularly appreciate about these boots is the color of the suede. The light beige with a hint of grey gives a more versatile look and avoids the orange or yellow undertone that can sometimes be found in boots of this style.
The design of the Saint Laurent Beige Suede Wyatt 40 Harness Boots is marked by a few key elements. The harness strap, heavily influenced by the original Frye boots, is the most prominent feature of these boots. It’s what will make people take notice when you wear them, and it’s also what will require you to match the rest of your look with a bit of rockstar flair. These boots may not be the best choice for those looking to pair them with a preppy or dressier look, and they may not be the best option for a suit or business wear attire.
THE HEEL AND SOLE
Another key element of the Saint Laurent Beige Suede Wyatt 40 Harness Boots is the 40mm heel. This heel height adds to the distinctive look of the boots, and gives them a slight cowboy boot aesthetic. As a side benefit, they make you just a little bit taller, so you’re actually literally changing your appearance when you wear these, aside from just the style of the boot itself.
The next noteworthy aspect of the Saint Laurent Beige Suede Wyatt 40 Harness Boots is the color of the heel and sole, which is a rich chocolate brown. The quality is impeccable and there is almost a shimmer to the suede – you may be temped to put them in a glass box and admire them from a distance, but don’t worry, these boots are designed to be worn. They are the type of boots that look better the more you wear and age them.
The last main design feature to mention is just the classic western, cowboy-boot inspired Wyatt shape (which all three boots in this article are going to have).
HOW TO STYLE BEIGE SUEDE WYATT 40 HARNESS BOOTS
If your personal style is edgy, and you have an element of high-fashion rock and roll in your everyday fits, the Wyatt 40 harness boots are a great choice to enhance your look. These boots are perfect for you if you’re an artist or performer, or if you want to add a touch of rockstar edge to your wardrobe. They look amazing with super skinny black jeans, leather jackets, patterned shirts and cool long coats. These boots are perfect for making a statement and standing out in a crowd.
PAIR 2: WYATT 30 CHELSEA BOOTS IN “LIGHT CIGAR”
The next pair of boots in our spotlight is the Wyatt 30 Chelsea boots in the colorway Light Cigar. This is the first of two Chelsea boot styles we’re featuring. The shape of these boots is the classic Wyatt shape, similar to the last pair but with a few minor differences that change the overall look quite a bit.
As Chelsea boots, these feature a piece of elastic instead of a zipper opening. One significant difference is the heel height, which is 30mm compared to the 40mm of the Wyatt 40s. This lower heel height makes them less flashy and showy, allowing them to be worn in a more dressed-down and understated way. The lack of a harness strap, combined with the slightly darker, more brown color, makes these boots more suitable for everyday wear. They can be paired with a nice pair of dark wash jeans and a t-shirt for a stylish-casual look, or even dressed up with a blazer.
One thing we appreciate about these boots is the color of the sole and heel, which is a neutral brown that creates a low contrast versus the colour of the suede. This gives the overall design a clean and simple aesthetic. The color of the suede is a warm beige tone, which is not as light as the first pair, making it the perfect tone of beige for versatility and everyday wear.
Our least favorite aspect of these boots is the contrasting color of the elastic. It breaks up the overall sleekness of the design and the dark brown color can be seen peeking out from under jeans when worn. Other high-end brands usually match the elastic more closely to the color of the suede (e.g. Bottega Veneta, Common Projects, or Louboutin) which creates a more cohesive look.
WYATT 30 CHELSEA BOOTS IN “CIGAR BEIGE”
The final pair of boots we’re showcasing is the Wyatt 30 Chelsea boots in Cigar Beige. These are our favorite of the three pairs. They are the perfect balance between the two previous styles; they don’t have the heaviness or overly polarizing rockstar element of the harness boots, but still maintain the sleek and stylish high-fashion look of the hidden elastic, lighter color, and darker sole.
The color, like the harness boots, is a light cool beige tone (but slightly lighter than the first pair). The shaft is not as tall as the harness boots and the heel is 30mm like the second pair. The color of the sole is more of a cognac, which is probably our least favorite sole color of the three boots. It has a slight orange or red tinge to the leather, which is similar to the second pair.
The quality of the materials, like the others, is stunning. The shape is basically the same as the others, with a wide toe box and pointed toe.
One thing we really liked about this pair is the pieces of suede they’ve attached to the elastic. These suede strips are made of the same material as the rest of the boot and cover up the elastic, which gives it a very clean and sleek look overall. This design element addresses the complaint we had about the second pair and we love the look of it. These boots are a little harder to find, but if you can get your hands on a pair, they are definitely well worth it.
HOW TO STYLE SAINT LAURENT SUEDE WYATTS
So we have shown you with three amazing pairs of Saint Laurent boots, each with their own unique details and characteristics. We’ve shared our thoughts and opinions on each, but ultimately the decision on which pair to purchase should be based on your personal style. These boots, although similar in some ways, cater to different styles, and when investing in a high-end piece like this, it’s important to make sure that it’s a perfect match for your lifestyle, personality, and current wardrobe. Ultimately, you want to make sure that you’re buying something that you’ll love and wear for years to come.
ARE THE WYATT 30 CHELSEA BOOTS IN “LIGHT CIGAR” RIGHT FOR YOU?
Is your day to day style anywhere from casual or smart casual, up to a bit preppy or dressy? Then the best pair of these three would be the slightly more brown pair with the 30mm heel. These could work with your sweaters, t-shirts, casual jackets, but also let you go a bit more edgy by adding a leather jacket or ripped jeans. Just keep in mind your pants do still need to be pretty slim to pull these boots off. They just don’t really work with wider leg openings and extra fabric flopping around.
HOW TO WEAR THE WYATT 30 CHELSEA BOOTS IN “CIGAR BEIGE”
If you sit anywhere in between these two styles, the best option of these three would definitely be the cigar beige Wyatt 30s with their more washed out tan colour, sleek design and bolder leather sole colour. These would be a pair you could wear with a simple casual outfit one day, and accessorized as far to the extreme of rockstar fashion as you want to go.
